A Fine Line

While I was out this past weekend, among the waves of people shopping, I literally witnessed a physical fight between two individuals.  It was broken up rather quickly by some who were in the immediate area.  That was a good thing.  I thought about the incident afterwards and reflected on an old ballad entitled, “There’s a Fine Line Between Love and Hate.”

Anger

I wondered what makes people so angry that they have to resort to physicality to make a point.  Is it years of pent up rage?  Fear of loss?  A myriad of other emotions resulting from neglect of certain needs during childhood?  The answer is probably yes to all.  I thought of how the quarrel could most likely have been avoided if the two individuals simply chose to discuss their dissatisfaction with one another.

A Realtor’s Plight

Simply by the nature of their responsibilities, realtors are placed in a precarious position in terms of servicing their clients.  There is understandbly a myriad of emotions involved in selling or purchasing a home.  Despite this fact, some realtors have a substantial track record of satisfied clients.  And yet, like all who are very active in the business, they too have their share of homeowners who couldn’t sell their home and buyers who couldn’t find that perfect house.  That doesn’t seem to affect how their clients feel about them though.   Could the difference be in communication?

Perspective

I think so.  I know of some realtors who not only make a commitment to speak to their listing clients regularly, they do so at a pre-determined time each week.  This not only creates a level of trust, it also instills a feeling of security on the part of the homeowner – two crucial elements for a successful relationship with your clients.

It’s the start of a new week.  I hope this gives you food for thought in your quest to have nothing but satisfied clients.  You can’t control the results or your client’s feelings, but you can control the delivery of service.  There’s  a fine line between love and hate!
