Beyond Our Control

I was speaking to a Realtor earlier in the week who had an opportunity before her that didn’t quite turn out the way that she hoped it would.  Not only for the benefit of herself but for the potential client also.

Retrospect

We chatted about her options and what she may have done differently.  Our conclusion was simple.  If given a chance to chart another course along the way, she probably wouldn’t have.  She would have done everything fairly much the same.

Reflection

She then offered a reflection on life that I think is beyond her years and yet so true.  She paused and commented, “Sometimes I just think that the outcome is beyond our control.”  I was impressed because I am older than she and it has taken me a lot longer to figure that out.

Pre-determined and Connected

We are all connected in so many ways, and it just seems as if so much that goes on in our lives is pre-ordained.  That is in no way implying  that we don’t have certain responsibilities.  We have a responsibility to hone our skills often and to work smart.  To take whatever fair and prudent steps need to be taken to serve our clients to the best of our abilities.  We can do all that, and yet there are many twists and turns that occur along the way that we just can’t predict or explain.

Healthy Understanding

That is certainly a perspective that’s important to understand for the benefit of one’s health.  Particularly in a career as demanding as real estate, it’s very easy to find oneself second guessing a decision and exponentially adding to one’s anxiety level.  This should be avoided at all costs, and it’s much easier to do so when you realize that much of it is beyond our control.

How often do you second guess yourself when things don’t turn out as you would like?

Does it make a difference when you avoid doing so?
