Born Not Made

To a certain degree we are all salespeople.  As children we sell to our parents and teachers.  As young adults we sell to whomever is interviewing us for that first full-time job and subsequently to our boss.  After that, or perhaps simultaneously, to the object of our desires.  It all comes back full circle after we have children of our own and we begin to sell to them.

Personal Observation

From my personal observation, I believe that the ultimate salespeople have an instinct in them that others don’t.  I remember, when playing Little League Baseball, we were asked to sell booster tickets.  Proceeds helped sponsors pay for uniforms, equipment and umpires.  The cost of each ticket was $1.  Most of the players sold anywhere between five and fifteen tickets.  Except for one little leaguer.   His dad would drive him off to neighborhoods comprised of larger homes.  He would return to pick up his son an hour or two later after he knocked on as many doors as he could during that time period.  That particular Little Leaguer would consistently sell fifty to sixty tickets.  He is now a top producing realtor.

Training

As with any career, especially sports and sales, one must practice and train deligently in order to have the best opportunity of attaining the pinnacle of success.  There are many other factors involved, but there are no limitations for one who is driven.  Yet all things considered,  whether on the athletic field or in the board room, I have concluded that the best of the best are born and not made.
