Decisions Void of Ego

One of the challenges that we face every day is making decisions that are void of ego.  That is particularly the case with independent business owners, which of course realtors essentially are, whereby those decisions can make the difference between a business that booms and a business that busts.

What is Ego?

Ego is the part of the psyche that can, and often does, interfere with decisions that are in tune with the laws of the universe.  It often impedes us from considering all options and making the choices that are in our best interest.  Signs of an unhealthy ego are:

  1. I am what I have.
  2. I am what I do for a living.
  3. I am what others say about me.
  4. I am separate from everyone else.

The Reality

You will find that decisions regarding your career, those that affect the present and those that affect the future, will be  more easily made with much more confidence if you can separate the pros and the cons of each one from the insecurities that emanate from a delicate ego.

Questions and Concerns

What are some of the daily questions and concerns that can arise during the course of a realtor’s day?

  1.  I am currently working with multiple buyers, how do I prioritize them?
  2.  I am working with a buyer who has unrealistic expectations of  my time.
  3. A homeowner wants to list their home with me but is looking for a discount broker which I am not.
  4. I have listed a home and my client has recently explained that she will be “just as happy if my home doesn’t sell.”
  5. I have a buyer who told me that he wants to “gouge” the seller of every cent and buy a home at a deep discount.
  6. I’m feeling overwhelmed, should I hire a personal assistant?
  7. I am going to invest 10% of my earnings into marketing myself, what is the most effective way in which to spend those dollars.
  8. I need greater support, should I join a team?
  9. I have a client who is very disrespectful of women.
  10. I have a friend who wants to sell her home.  She thoroughly respects my professionalism but is concerned with combining business and friendship.

As one can see, there are many difficult choices to be made.  The next time one of these decisions is  before you, check your ego.   You will have a great deal more peace of mind if your decision is void of ego.
