Twenty-five years ago I was in a three week real estate training class. During the third week, the owner of the company that I signed with was there and he addressed the class. He asked if any of us knew the one thing that would be most instrumental in determining our success. A number of the attendees raised there hand and some of the responses were more clever than others. None of us, however, gave the answer that the owner was looking for. “No,” he wryly said after the last of us responded, “the thing that will determine your success more than anything is your resolve.”
Heart
I’ve just seen highlights from the men’s tennis final at the Australian Open. It was the longest match in grand slam history. Both men displayed an arsenal of incredible shot making and a lot of heart. Both are obviously magnificently fit. They were so evenly matched that I couldn’t help but think that, in the end, the will to win may have just been the difference.
Resolve
Well it’s twenty-five years later and my real estate career has led me to a leadership and training position. If there is one thing that I’m sure of, it’s that the owner was so right – resolve is the key to success. The market seems to run in 90 day cycles, it changes rapidly and can provide an emotional roller coaster. The competition is stiff and plentiful.
We maintain our commitment to remain professional and do a splendid job of acting in the best interest of our clients.
All of this is admirable, but I daresay, whether it’s a life in tennis, real estate, or any field where you have competition, the last one standing will be the one with the greatest resolve.
What’s been your experience with resolve? Do you have any suggestions on how to maintain it?
