On my drive into the office this morning I was channel surfing on Sirius radio. I heard a song by a contemporary artist who was bemoaning the fact that the person he called repeatedly failed to pick up the phone. He was frustrated with receiving nothing but texts, emails and voicemails.
World of Opportunities
It’s difficult not to sound trite when writing that the internet has opened an unparalleled resevoir of possibilties for everyone. It certainly has revolutionized the real estate industry and enriched our lives. The mere opportunity to write a daily blog whereby my musings can be read by the world has added a new perspective to my day. It has enabled me to go back to my roots and parlay one of the things that I thoroughly enjoy with my real estate business. Very refreshing!
A Wonderment of Life
I’ve been around a long time, and I’ve yet to experience anything that truly has nothing but an “up side.” It’s one of life’s wonderments. Life is a balancing act and so is real estate. A Realtor needs to learn how to assimilate one strategy, technique and skill with another. Failure to do so places your business in peril.
Open Houses and Follow-Up
Follow up after open houses is one of many examples that I use to illustrate how the internet can simultaneously be useful and a detriment. An email to an open house visitor which contains properties that fit their parameters shows that you listened to them and that you are willing to be deligent in an effort to meet their needs. Many of us, however, use email in lieu of phoning and that is simply taking the path of least resistance. The convenience and opportunities that email provides should be used in addition to the phone. The Realtor who utilizes both will convert more prospects into clients – it’s that simple.
The world may be a better place with the invention of the internet and email, but when it comes to establishing relationships – remember to pick up the phone.
