Rewards

Well, the Memorial Day celebrations are over.  So too are the many barbecues honoring the millions of American heroes who have so bravely preserved our freedoms over the centuries of our existence.  We owe so many of our liberties to their valor and sacrifice.

Today

After the “long weekend,” a new work week begins today.

Before those of us who are Realtors began our real estate career, the weekend had a built-in reward.  It was in fact the weekend, thus we had two days away from our job.  Two days to mentally decompress.  To accomplish what needed to be accomplished outside the workplace.   To focus on family and friends.  Or to simply enjoy pursuing our “outside” passions.

Not So Fast

Once our real estate careers began, however, the bonus that accompanied the weekend evaporated before our very eyes.  Realtors work weekends, and for most of us it’s just a way of life.

That shouldn’t, however, prevent you from having a reward system in place.  I consider it imperative to do this, not only for the emotional benefit, but also for the longevity of your career.

Alternatives

There are alternative rewards that, while perhaps not as liberating as a free day, can nevertheless be an effective way to provide a psychological lift to your work week.

Perhaps you can take a break from another weekday routine that, while necessary, is  demanding of your time and whereby a physical or emotional respite would recharge your batteries.

The Daily Tonic

While the daily tonic is posted everyday Monday through Friday, this is my first blog of the week.  Not due to lack of effort or time, but merely because I grouped Memorial Day Monday into the weekend.  The weekend is a time for me to leave my weekday routines.  To re-energize my body and mind.  Similarly, I also take a break from my daily exercise routines on the weekend.

It’s a way of thanking the part of me that is so disciplined during the week.  It allows me to regenerate my creative side, consequently rejuvenating my blog.  It restores life into my biophysical being, which benefits my body.

All Is Not Lost

Being a realtor does not have to be a death knoll to the weekend bonus that you became so accustomed to and enjoyed so much before real estate.  Like with everything in life, a little creativity can go a long way.  So can the dividends of rewards – for your personal life and for your career!

What have you done to replace the emotional high that you once experienced in preparation for the weekend before the demands of your real estate career?
