We so often hear about the significance of attitude. About the degree to which the energy that we exude impacts others and in fact comes back to us.
It’s important to be mindful of this even on the days or during the moments that everything seems to be going wrong and you just can’t muster up the energy to crack a smile, let alone maintain a positive attitude.
There’s an Alternative
It’s during those moments that one must remember there is a realm of emotions between positive and negative. At times it is better to just remain silent. I learned that first hand earlier this week.
I was speaking to a manager of a bank and, being in real estate, I wondered how the new year was going for the banking industry. Unfortunately, by the end of our conversation I still wasn’t sure. She proceeded to tell me that she lost her assistant and her best teller, not to mention the fact that another employee was out on vacation. That she is doing the work of three people, having a most difficult time keeping up with it all and maintaining any sort of organization.
Head for the Hills
I couldn’t leave the conversation fast enough. I felt very grateful that that kind of talk is non existent in our office. It is so counter productive. Being a positive person, I can’t say that it affected my mood to any degree. I merely left with a very unsettling feeling about the bank for which this person works. I don’t need the assistance of a bank at the moment, but I thought that if I did, I certainly wouldn’t feel secure using this one.
Blurry Lines
As real estate professionals we must always remember to keep the lines between personal and business relationships clearly defined. Every one is a potential client. Despite the fact that someone may hold you in the highest regard as an individual, maintaining your professionalism remains paramount. Your friends and acquaintances have emotions just like everyone else. And if they lose confidence in your ability to perform, you will in turn lose their business.
