In last Friday’s blog, I wondered if you were satisfied with the prospecting that you did the first week of the new year. I ended with words of encourgement for those who weren’t, reminding everyone that there were still fifty-one weeks left to 2012.
Success
In writing this week’s blogs, I noticed that I have been using the word success fairly often. Thinking about it, it’s probably one of the most frequently used words in business literature. Yet, it’s meaning to everyone is likely as varied as any word in the English dictionary.
For Reasons of Clarity
I decided that as long as I’m going to use the word success often, it would probably be helpful to describe what it means to me. For many, it’s associated with the income level that one attains. For others, it may be one’s accomplishments in comparison to those in the same field. While both are certainly viable, I have somewhat of a different perspective. In my mind, when I look back a year from now, I will feel that I achieved success if I was able to accomplish the following:
- Have the best interest at heart of everyone with whom I meet.
- Inspire team members to improve upon their skill set.
- Assist them in doing so.
- Provide others with the means that help them achieve their goals.
- Give our past, current and future clients my best advice. The same advice that I would give to a dear friend or relative.
- Provide team members with a secure, stable environment and clarity of purpose.
- Provide team members with the necessary tools that they need to get “the order” every single time.
- Feeling that, after 365 days, I was able to put forth my best effort everyday.
There are probably more. But if I could check yes to all eight of these, I’m sure that I’ll feel I had a wonderfully successful year!
