I wrote about success in a recent blog. I thought about it again this week within the context of a conversation that I had with a colleague.
The Thrill of the Build
We were speaking about a strategy that we are preparing to implement in a specific market place. It’s similar to one that we utilized years ago and we have reason to believe that the time is right to adhere to the same blueprint. My colleague, who is an excellent businessman, particularly when measured by his ability to generate net profit, said something that I found surprising. “The pursuit of acheiveing our goal is much more exciting to me than the monetary rewards attached to it.”
And Again
Today I read a similar thought by an expert in leadership who wrote that “Succes is about thriving not arriving.” I actually think that success is about both. It certainly is about one’s passion to get to the finish line. So too is it getting to the finish line before anyone else.
Many of us who have attained a goal in the past can look back with fondness on the determination, effort and resolve that was required in achieving it. There is little doubt that we can also remember the great feeling of accomplishment that engulfed us when indications were that we performed a task better than anyone else in a given instance or moment in time.
Apropos to Now
Both are significant points to keep in mind today. It’s the beginning of a new week. We are entering the heart of the spring real estate market. Your focus and determination need to remain keen. This is no time to become discouraged about what you have failed to do up until this point or about the things that just haven’t seemed to go your way. If you are able to manage your emotions while maintaining your effort and resolve, the benefits of “thriving and arriving” will be yours to enjoy.
Do you remember the feeling of accomplishing one of your goals?
Or at least the solace that you had in remembering your determination along the way?
