I’ve been watching a lot of high school basketball lately. My son is on the local school team and at his age there certainly can be a large discrepancy in talent level from team to team.
The Chicken or the Egg
I’ve noticed that some of the boys, especially on the weaker teams, seem anxious while playing in front of crowds. That’s to be expected, I suppose. Yet early on in the season I began to wonder. Is the fear that some of the players seem to exhibit simply a manifestation of differences in genetic make-up? Or is it perpetuated by the player’s lack of confidence in his ability? And if it’s the latter, what in essence can that be attributed to. To DNA also, or is it relative to the player’s ability or lack thereof?
Seems to me
I have no proof or empirical data to support my conclusion, but the factor that appears most instrumental in the presence of stage fright is the player’s ability. The less ability, the less confidence. And the less confidence, the more nerves seem to play a role in performance.
Making the Most of Opportunities
In business there’s just no telling when a sale’s opportunity will occur. When such an occasion arises, you just have to seize the moment. There is no room for lack of preparation as there is just too much at stake for both you and all parties involved.
Preparation
Preparation is the key to success. Without preparation and attention to detail you’re throwing caution to the wind. A sure recipe for stage fright which engenders a lack of confidence on the part of the potential client. And a lack of confidence is a sure way to lose the order.
Have you ever lost business due to lack of preparation? How did that change your approach in the future? Please let us know in the comment section below.
