The Emotional Side Of Business

Prometheus, a Greek Titan who was chained to a rock as punishment for stealing fire for human use, in many ways became his own worst enemy.  During the day, when he had the combination of a physical and an emotional body, an eagle would fly down upon him and eat Prometheus’ insides.  At night, as he slept and consequently lay emotionally dormant, his body would restore itself, only to supply food once again for the eagle the very next day.   Finally, Prometheus was released by Hercules, the Buddha or Christ of his time.

My Evening

I didn’t have an opportunity to watch coverage of the 2008 Presidential race as I had an engagement in New York City that night.  It’s doubtful that I’ll be able to so this evening either as the power to my home has just been restored and I’m without cable television and Internet access.  I am writing this blog at the local library.  Somehow it seems quite natural to have dinner at a pub while watching a sporting event on TV, yet a bit odd doing the same for a political event.  Perhaps it’s a question of changing my paradigm.

The Eleventh Hour

We’re coming upon the eleventh hour of 2012, although there remains work to do at Al Filippone Associates before we can say that we’ve accomplished our goals of providing the best technological opportunities and service to our clients.  One thing I do feel proud of, however, are the instincts that we’ve displayed from considering the lessons learned from twenty-five years in real estate while consistently maintaining an eye on the future.  One component of that experience involves the agents on our team exhibiting an undeniable ability to separate emotion from business, something that is very difficult for many in our industry to do.

The Bottom Line

Unlike Prometheus, we have been mentally strong enough not to allow our thoughts to get the better of us.  I feel good about that, and certainly think that it inspires us to elevate our offerings to our clients even more so in 2013.  I think it will engender more out of the box thinking.  As the team leader I suppose I should set the example.  Perhaps I will grab a bite at the pub tonight.
