The Super Bowl And Momentum – The Biggest Conundrum

One needs to look no further than Sunday’s Super Bowl to see the impact that energy has on our lives.  It was a game that was emotionally dominated by the eventual winner Baltimore Ravens, for most of the first half and into the second.  And then it happened.  A bizarre and unpredictable power outage, and the entire complexion of the game changed.  The Ravens effort stalled dead in it’s tracks, and in a reverse of fortunes, the Forty-Niners dramatically out performed them until the final play of the game when they eventually lost.

An Ethereal Phenomenon

Momentum is one of the most ethereal yet impactful things in life.  You can’t literally see it, but you can sense it and feel it as clearly as the nose on your face.  It shapes your real estate business every day.  Bouncing from “working in” your business to “working on” your business.  From servicing your current clients to building your brand and prospecting for new ones.  The momentum of new business impedes you from building your customer base for the future.  It’s the very reason that the natural curve of your business resembles the tracks of a roller coaster.  It lulls you to sleep, and convinces you that it will remain steady forever.

Tomorrow’s Starting Pitcher

Accomplished Realtors are less likely to get caught in that trap.  It’s much more complicated than the rhythm of a baseball season, whereby students of the game proclaim that momentum is “tomorrow’s starting pitcher.”  Realtors who meet with success realize that they need to keep the “pinwheel” turning, and that, while momentum is as elusive as a knuckle-ball in the wind, one must do what one can to keep it moving in a positive direction.

Seneca

Seneca, the great philosopher and advisor to emperor Nero, wrote that, “Failure changes for the better, success for the worst.”  The Ravens won’t have the opportunity to find that out, not this year at least.  The Forty-Niners will.  If a steady flow of business means success to you, you will need to solve the conundrum and allure of momentum.  Or experience the wisdom of the iconic Roman statesman.

How can Realtors improve their ability to  juggle working in your business versus working on it?
