Tragedy In Newtown, Ct

It’s very difficult for me to write about anything that seems to have significance after the tragedy of this past weekend in Newtown, Ct.  A catastrophe of this magnitude never makes sense and is so difficult to fathom.  There is plenty of literature and video available, but it never seems to explain how those who have similar life experiences to a mass murderer turn out so differently.  Even though we understand that no two people are unlike and similar experiences can lead to different behavior, it remains incomprehensible.

Digging Deep

The Monsignor at mass today stated that we are to forgive everyone, even the individual responsible for this horrific event.  He went on to say that we are not to judge, that God is the only judge.  However true that may be, at a time such as this it requires many of us to “dig really deep” to be able to do that.  How ironic that this all occurred when it did.  I read that, as they were trapped in a classroom, some of the children who were fortunate enough to escape unharmed – at least physically, expressed that they just wanted to “live and have Christmas.”

The Beauty of America

The caring and giving nature of Americans shines so brightly during times like these.  There are many instances of heroism.  So many individuals have offered every assistance imaginable to provide solace for those affected.  The President visited Newtown tonight to console the community and speak at a Memorial Service that took place at Newtown High School.  A statewide vigil for the victims is in the early stages of planning for next weekend.  God must be so proud of the way we pull together.  We never allow the senseless acts of one to destroy the heart, soul and spirit of many.  God bless the families of Newtown.

  1. Stirring, moving, upsetting, unsettling, uneasy, frightening, and nauseated from the knot that will not untie itself….

    • I echo Penny’s sentiment and pray that everyone affected directly and indirectly (that would be all humanity) can remain strong and productive in ways that can prevent this atrocity from EVER happening again. May God’s love and forgiveness provide the guidance we all so gravely need right now…
