Vacation Time

Many of the public schools in the Northeast are closed this week for Spring recess.  It’s often a week with interesting possibilities in the life of a realtor.

Staying Home

For Realtors who are vacationing also, the ones who are experienced are bracing for a lot of activity.  For reasons known only to our Higher Power, it seems that a realtor never attracts so much business as when they leave for vacation.

For Realtors who are staying home, however, the question remains.  How busy will the market be with many people out of town?

Distinctively Different

What makes this week of vacation different than others in terms of its impact on the real estate market is the season.  Occurring  during the height of the spring market, as it does, adds a different dimension.  History only can help us to predict activity to a certain degree.  While the real estate market has been tepid for Spring vacation during certain years in the past, there have been other years when it was as brisk as any other time in the month of April.

Showing Up

The good news for those who will be working this week is that at least you are showing up.  And while you’re at it, why not start your week with a list of things to accomplish by Friday:

  • Send another follow-up note to those whom you’ve met at past open houses
  • Work on providing exposure for your inventory via social media outlets
  • Prepare your next direct mail piece
  • Call five people each day from your sphere
  • Take as much opportunity time as is available
  • Offer assistance to anyone who was recently unsuccessful selling their home
  • Launch the blog that you have been preparing since January

It’s vacation time for some, but it’s all business for you!

Do you recall a time when others vacationed and you contracted some business?

What are some other activities that you plan to engage in this week?
