I look back on the past week with a sense of accomplishment. I moved from one home to another, managed the contractor and the minor renovations that took place prior to and during the move, and continued to remain fully engaged with my business. The one thing that I wasn’t quite sure I would be able to maintain consistency with, was The Daily Tonic.
The Reason Is Obvious
When I finished writing the first post of the week yesterday, I was relieved and satisfied. I immediately asked myself how I was able to do remain on task for the past several days while others may have not have done so under similar circumstances. I was very content savoring a self inflicted “pat on the back,” when the answer became crystal clear. It’s not me, it’s the people that surround me. The only credit that I can really take is having the business acumen to hire the right people in the first place and providing them with what they need.
A Few Years Back
A few years ago I had a conversation with the real estate broker of the company with whom our team is affiliated. I don’t really remember what the topic was, but our team was on a meteoric rise. He cautioned, “Everyone needs a mentor of some sort. Every successful person has someone with whom they consult. We all need support.” In other words, no man is an island.
The Test of Time
I can certainly attest to the wisdom of his words, as much today as ever. When our team was first conceived, and as it quickly grew, the naysayers were aplenty. Those who had difficulty imagining the team concept ever meeting with success based their judgement, I think, on fear and an ego that was a bit too large. An ego that impeded them from having accurate insight into the underpinnings of the real estate landscape and the metrics of service.
A Concern Gone Awry
The logic of the cynics was that a client would only want to work with the team leader, thus the role of the other team members would be superfluous. That was true, I thought, unless the other team members were outstanding in their own right. Fast forward to today with all that I’ve come to understand, and it makes me proud to be affiliated with those who surround me. Including the administrative staff and our stagers. We as individuals cannot accomplish what we would like to on our own – it takes support. You can’t do without it!
