Do You Worry?

Are you one who worries often?  A lot of us do.  It’s taken me a very long time, but I’m finally realizing that it does absolutely no good.  In fact it does a lot of harm and I’m finally ready to stop.  Perhaps I’m a slow learner.

Finding The Good

In his book, Man’s Search For MeaningViktor Frankl writes about finding the beauty in everything you see.  He credits his ability to do that with surviving the incredible rigors of a Nazi concentration camp during WWII.  Even to the point where he was able to find beauty in his meal – a bowl of dirty water with a fish head floating in it.

The Relationship

The relationship between worry and finding beauty may be lost to some of you, but it’s there.  Frankl goes on to explain that if we focus on what’s ugly, then we attract more ugliness into our thoughts, our emotions and ultimately into our lives.  And if we allow ugliness to permeate into our lives, it is apt to perpetuate worry.

An Impediment to Our Goals

Now that many of us who are committed to our craft have written our 2012 business plan, we need to realize that worry is nothing but an impediment to achieveing one’s goal.  If your mind is cluttered with worry, it is not focused on your mission.  And of course if your focus is lost then you are very unlikely to accomplish what you need to accomplish, which again simply inspires more worry.

Make a Commitment

So as 2012 arrives, make a commitment to your business plan.  But before you do that, shed the ugliness and worry from your life.  It should be easy for, as we’ve all heard many times, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
