A Labor Of Love

The labor day weekend has come to an end.  What better time to talk about labor and the contrubutions of workers in America.

Einstein’s Commentary

“Strange is our situation here upon earth.  Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to a divine purpose.  From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing that we do know.  That man is here for the sake of other men.” – Albert Einstein

To apply Einstein’s commentary to the celebration of the weekend is simple.  Isn’t that really what our work is about, something that we do for the sake of other men and women?  Outside of the health professions and education, it would be difficult to find a vocation that impacts the lives of others as much as that of a Realtor.

Synergy

The quote below from H. Jackson Browne, Jr., essentially addresses the significance of the organization with which you are associated and the synergy that you have with it.

“Talent without organization is like an octopus on roller skates.  There’s plenty of movement, but you never know if it’s going to be forward, backward or sideways.”

Is the support that you receive from your organization predictable, or do you never know what to expect?  If it’s the former, then great.  If it’s the latter, then perhaps a discussion with your leader is in order as it is difficult to reach your outer limits when your talent is harnessed by your organization.

Making a Footprint

Einstein was correct, we are here for a very short time.  And if we are going to make the most of our “short visit,” it is precisely to affect the lives of as many people as we can.  Or as stated by Browne,

“Most of us know what we need to do to make our lives more fulfilled and useful, but sometimes we forget.  My little books are gentle reminders of those simple things which, if done well and in a spirit of love, can significantly change our lives.”

And therein lies the meaning and key to the celebration of Labor Day.  Whether finding your client a home or selling theirs, the deepest footprint that you can make on this earth is to accomplish all that in the spirit of love.

What about your last transaction are you most proud of?

What lesson did you take away which may effect what you do the next time?
