It’s been a long time since I’ve made a New Year’s resolution. In fact I can’t remember the last time that I did. I never really believed in their effectiveness in keeping someone attached to their annual desires for change. People seem to quickly forget their resolution or soon replace it with another. This year, though, I think I’m going to give it a go once again and invoke the tradition that dates back to ancient Roman history.
General vs. Specific
I’m thinking that I’m going to add a unique twist to my resolution by making it more general and less specific in nature. Perhaps that will lead to a greater opportunity for change and have a more universal impact on my life and others.
Just Say Yes
I’ve decided that I’m going to say yes much more often in 2012. I haven’t even decided to whom, to what or under what type of circumstances. Yes elicits so much more energy than no. And when I think back on many of the times that I said no, my response was often based on fear. We can all benefit from more energy and less fear.
Peripheral Benefits for Realtors
An increase in the level of energy and less fear are not the only benefits that those in our environment will receive from more of yes and less of no.
Yes inspires:
- exploration
- experimentation
- freedom
- creative thinking
- exhuberance
- confidence
- trust
Think of the many ways in which our clients can benefit from the support of a real estate group with an attitude of yes. Yes – I think 2012 is going to be a great year.
What are the differences in your relationship with those who often say yes versus those who often say no? I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

You never regret the things you do, you only regret the things you don’t do. Yes is a great way to start 2012…thanks for the inspiration!
To instill “trust, creative thinking and confidence”, in anyone, I feel is the key to anything successful in life….especially in the rearing of children. Isn’t that what we call “coaching”? Without these, paralyzation sets in. To this great list, I would like to add “enthusiasm”. After all, we are living in the YES, WE CAN era.
This is one of the most poignant blogs I have ever read. It is so simple and says so very much…..A very Happy YES Year to all!
I will follow in your footsteps. Any time I see a roadblock, I will look at it like a speedbump instead. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great advice Al to start the New Year with, Thanks and twittered.
